Service we offer

If a sleep disorder is suspected, an appointment with a trained sleep medicine specialist is recommended. Our comprehensive sleep program offers initial evaluations, diagnosis, treatment and support of sleep disorders in one location. Once a general medical history, sleep history and examination is completed, our sleep specialist will determine if a sleep study and additional tests are needed to conclusively diagnose the problem.

Sleep studies are conducted private home like bedrooms and are conducted by highly trained sleep technologists. The sleep technologist monitors brain waves, breathing patterns, heart beat, muscle activity, and related functions of the body during sleep.

Upon the completion of the sleep study, the physician will interpret the data and make the diagnosis. A follow-up appointment is then scheduled for a recommended diagnosis and treatment.

Depending on the diagnosis, treatment can range from the administration of airway pressure appliances, medication, lifestyle and behavioral changes, weight loss, ENT surgery and laser therapy, dental appliances, light therapy and internal body clock adjustments.

The services provided at SW-Cleveland Sleep Center are integrated with managed care organizations, referring physicians and patients, to provide the best.

  1. Our Testing Services include:

a. Overnight Polysomnography (PSG Sleep Study): The test includes a full night PSG; a titration PSG; and a split night. A full night PSG is performed for the diagnosis of Sleep Apnea, or any other sleep disorders. If a patient is diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, the patient has to come back for one more night for a titration sleep study. In this case, the sleep technologist determines an optimum pressure of the equipment to be used for the treatment of Sleep Apnea. If however, the patient has more prominent symptoms, a split night sleep study is recommended. In this case, patient sleeps for half the night for the diagnosis, and the rest of the night with the equipment meant to treat Sleep Apnea.

b. Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT; nap testing) and Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT): Both the tests are daytime nap tests. The purpose of the test is to help the physician determine the degree of sleepiness a person suffers during the day. The test is meant for the diagnosis of Narcolepsy.

c. EEG testing is performed by our qualified sleep technologists. EEG data helps physicians with any concerns about seizure activity.

d. Oximetry Testing: The test is often used to determine if there is a medical necessity for the use of Oxygen.

e. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Treatment – Cleveland Sleep Centers work with selected durable medical equipment companies, to help manage the patients’ CPAP equipment. To ensure compliance, we stress on the importance of proper use of the equipment. We have respiratory therapists to assist with patient education; selection of appropriately fitting and comfortable masks; and training on the use of the equipment.

f. Patients are educated on the use of Bright Light Therapy. The treatment is mostly used for those with Circadian Rhythm disorders, and Seasonal Affective Disorder.

g. The Sleep Centers are equipped to perform Basic Pulmonary Function Testing, using Spirometry.

h. One of the most important tests for the screening and diagnosis of sleep apnea is the Home Sleep Study. If sleep apnea is suspected, patients can do the Home Sleep Studies in the comfort of their homes. However, if the patient is diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, an overnight titration sleep study is performed to make sure that the patient gets the right equipment for the treatment

  1. Dental Sleep Medicine– For certain patients with obstructive sleep apnea, it may be appropriate to use custom made oral appliances. Cleveland Sleep Centers offer the services of orthodontic specialty to deliver the best care for its patients.
  2. Patient Education- Patient education is the most important component of the treatment regimen. The sleep specialist and his staff educate the patients according their needs. To further enhance their understanding, educational pamphlets especially designed of the patient in mind, are given. The staff is always available for the patients when needed.
