About Gy Yatros D.M.D.

In 2001 I was asked by one of my patients to make a dental orthotic appliance for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). I was familiar with the appliances but had only made them on occasion in the past for snoring. After consulting with their sleep physician, I delivered the appliance to the patient. Little did I know that moment would change my professional future in such a dramatic fashion!

Being what I considered a high quality reconstructive dentist for over a decade, it wasn\\\'t new to me to receive heartfelt emotional compliments from my patients. I would often hear how they loved their new teeth and how their new smiles had changed their lives. But, once I started helping people with obstructive sleep apnea, the gratitude that has been felt and the significance of what we are accomplishing has made reconstructive dentistry pale in comparison to helping people with OSA change their lives.

After that first patient I began working more closely with our area sleep physicians and learning more about OSA and its serious ramifications. I gained a great deal of empathy for this growing number of patients. I never thought when I went to dental school that I would be able to help people in such a dramatic way. The stories after stories that I have experienced of how our office has helped to give patients a happier and healthier life have made this field of dentistry my newest passion. Since that first patient, I have spent hundreds of hours on education and gaining the knowledge to help with this serious sleeping disorder.

In 2006 we began Dental Sleep Solutions to make access to our care more available in the West Coast area, and I plan to continue to make this dental sleep medicine a focus for the future. I am so glad that I began in this field when I was challenged in 2001. I am also thankful to be able to give people an alternative treatment for OSA while at the same time doing something that has become increasingly enjoyable for me personally. Making people sleep better, be happier and live longer is not just a catch phrase; it is truly a daily experience at Dental Sleep Solutions and that is what makes it all worth while!
