About us

Dr. Cantwell was born in Kingston, Pennsylvania. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Wilkes University where she majored in Biology. She attended the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine from 1994 to 1998 and it was here that she met her husband, John. John was pursuing his law degree at the University of Pittsburgh. Upon graduation she remained at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine to complete a three year residency in prosthodontics.
During her residency she was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy. Her husband, John, was already commissioned as a lieutenant in the Navy's Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps. Dr .Cantwell was awarded a Navy Scholarship and began her active duty in 2001. She served as a lieutenant for three years in the Dental Corps and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. In 2002 the Cantwell's welcomed their twin daughters, Brighid and Tierney. They were soon followed by another daughter, Rory, born in 2003. Upon completion of their active duty the Cantwell's returned to Pennsylvania to be near their extended families. In 2006 Dr. Cantwell was promoted to Lieutenant Commander.
Cantwell Dental Group opened its doors in December, 2005.
I began my dental career as a teenager working after school for my own dentist. I helped pay for college as a dental assistant, and saved for graduate school as a dental office manager. Having worked in different roles within dental offices has helped shape me as a dentist, and has left me with a great respect and appreciation for my team.

We've had patients tell us that they were reluctant to pursue treatment because it had been a while since they had seen a dentist. This is common.
It's especially satisfying to take care of someone who has devoted years to focusing on the needs of everyone else in their life, and is now ready to take care of themselves too.
