WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A DENTIST?
For me, dentistry is a passion. It is my life. The only thing more exciting than learning a new technique or working with the most state-of-the-art equipment is seeing how much this can bring to the lives of my patients - the new quality of life. It is really rewarding work, and I pour myself into it.
It is always a challenge to keep up with technology that is changing so rapidly. But it is my goal to always provide you with the latest, best tested, most effective procedures. You deserve nothing less than the best.
WHAT SORT OF FORMAL TRAINING DID YOU UNDERGO?
I studied at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, where I earned my D.D.S. But I don't believe that a doctor can ever stop learning. It's very important to keep up with the latest techniques.
HOW DO YOU STAY CURRENT?
Part of it comes from sharing ideas with other dentists in professional organizations such as the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, the American College of Prosthodontics, and many others. I also do a great deal of research into the latest equipment and techniques.
HAVEN'T YOU ALSO UNDERGONE TWO SEPARATE TWO-YEAR RESIDENCIES?
Yes. When I decided to focus on tooth replacement, I wanted to make sure that I understood the procedures completely. Specialized treatment such as implantology is not something that's easily learned in dental school. So I studied under accomplished oral surgeons at Loma Linda University to earn certification in oral implantology. Then I spent another two years earning certification in prothodontics, which is the science of tooth replacement.
AND YOU ARE NOW PASSING THIS KNOWLEDGE ALONG TO FUTURE DENTISTS.
I think it's my responsibility to share what I've learned. I've taught dental students at USC and Loma Linda for the last eight years. My hope is that the experience I share with them will help improve the quality of dental care for everyone in our area.
IT SEEMS AS THOUGH YOU HAVE A GREAT DEAL OF EXPERIENCE IN DENTAL IMPLANTS.
Yes, I've performed over 1,000 implant procedures, from placement to finished tooth. But the most important thing to me is to provide the best option for each particular patient, whether that be implants, dentures, or crown and bridge work.
WHAT IS THE MOST REWARDING PART OF YOUR JOB?
My job is not just about restoring teeth, it's about improving people's lives. People come to me for tooth replacement so they can enjoy their favorite foods again, or so they'll feel confident about their smile. My goal is to provide the most effective treatment possible. I suppose my greatest reward is seeing the same patients, years later, still finding great satisfaction with the function and appearance of their teeth. That is what makes all the extra effort worthwhile.
