Dr. Alpher is currently on the medical committee at National Rehabilitation Hospital's department of sleep medicine, as well as the sleep team at George Washington University Medical Center utilizing a comprehensive medical/dental approach to treat sleep disturbances.

Dr. Alpher was responsible for the creation of the oral screening program at the U. S. Department of State in 1980 through 1992, and served as a consultant to their medical department.

For over 30 years, Dr. Alpher has specialized in the field of craniofacial pain disorders and has been actively involved in the treatment and study of (TMD) temporomandibular disorders, a group of conditions that affect the jaw and the muscles that control chewing. In 1985, he founded the Metropolitan Area Craniofacial Pain Center, P.C., in Washington D.C., where he has continued to successfully treat individuals who suffer with these disorders through conservative, non-surgical methods.

Another focus of Dr. Alpher's practice is the treatment of sleep apnea and snoring through the use of dental appliance therapy. He has pioneered a conservative, non - invasive approach utilizing computerized and verifiable diagnostic methods to treat craniofacial pain as well as sleep disorders. This method of treatment has proven to be greatly successful, and is highly regarded as the first method of choice by physicians and patients.

Over the past two decades, Dr. Alpher has worked diligently to generate public awareness of the various aspects of craniofacial pain disorders. He has lectured throughout the United States, as well as Europe and South America, and has authored, co-authored and published many studies on TMD and sleep disorders.

Dr. Alpher is a Diplomate in the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, Diplomate to the American Academy of Pain Management, member of The American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Diplomate to The American Board of Forensic Examiners, and is a Fellow in The American Academy of General Dentistry. He is also a member of The American Dental Association, District of Columbia Dental Society, The Foundation for the Advancement of Implants and Transplants and he is also a member of Maimonides Medical Society.

Dr Alpher has limited his practice to the treatment of craniofacial pain disorders, and the fabrication of oral appliances for sleep apnea and snoring. He currently practices as Director of the Metropolitan Area Craniofacial Pain Center
