About us

Dr. Roger Murray was born in Dubuque and lived in a house on Langworthy Street near Mercy Hospital in which his father’s family had lived. The house was so near Mercy that it eventually was acquired by Mercy and removed to make room for their expansion.

Dr. Murray attended Nativity Grade School, Washington Junior High, and graduated from Dubuque Senior High.

He enrolled at the University of Iowa and was awarded a wrestling scholarship. During the Vietnam conflict, he enlisted in the Army. As a member of the Special Forces (Green Beret), he volunteered to go to Vietnam and was stationed in the Northern Highlands until he was wounded. After spending two months in the hospital at Zama in Japan, Dr. Murray returned to the United States and to school at the University of Iowa with the G.I. Bill.

After finishing his undergraduate degree, Dr. Murray entered dental school at Iowa. He was awarded a general practice residency at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. In 1976, Dr. Murray returned to Dubuque and opened his office for the practice of general dentistry. As a general practice Dr. Murray has had much experience in all areas of dentistry with a special interest in implants and dentures. Dr. Murray started placing implants in 1982 while studying under Dr. Hilt Tatum. Dr. Tatum is widely known for originating bone grafting and bone manipulation techniques utilized worldwide in implant dentistry.

Dr. Murray maintains memberships in the American Dental Association, Iowa Dental Association, Dubuque County Dental Association, Chicago Dental Association, American Academy of Implant Dentistry and American Society of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Murray has three married children and two grandchildren. He enjoys swimming, biking, and running and has competed in several triathlons around the world. One of the most interesting started with a swim from Alcatraz. Dr. Murray’s other hobbies include woodworking, flying, skydiving, kayaking, rowing and riding his motorcycle.
