About us
I grew up in Morton Grove, the second oldest of four in a blue-collar family, and enjoyed art and sports as a youngster. Always the tallest in my class, I naturally took up basketball and played on the varsity team at Notre Dame high school. Focusing on sports, I led the team not only as captain, but also in scoring – setting some long-standing school records.
While growing up, my parents placed a strong emphasis on education, which helped guide me to my current profession.
Education
After considering several options for college, I chose Loyola University for its science, medical and dental programs. My main goal was to attend dental school, so my undergraduate courses were focused on that purpose, and I majored in psychology. I continued my basketball career while at college and juggled the busy schedule of a student athlete. Often traveling for games during winter exams, I frequently took tests in advance or “hit the books” while on the road.
After college, I attended Loyola University School of Dentistry. With sports completed, I focused more on school and family. My four years of dental education seemed to fly by, and then – again – I was planning my next educational endeavor. A general practice residency in hospital dentistry interested me, so I studied at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center.
Currently, I take up to six times the required number of continuing education hours each year in the areas of aesthetic dentistry, restorative dentistry and bite function.
Professional Career
My career has had three phases. Initially, I joined a practice with a great dentist who influenced my interest in bite problems and rehabilitative dentistry. Learning all that I could from him and attending continuing education courses added new dimensions to my understanding and ability to treat difficult dental problems.
This postgraduate training led to my next career phase: cosmetic dentistry. I soon realized my passion for cosmetic dentistry because it allowed me to use the artistic skills that I had enjoyed since childhood. Sculpting teeth, blending color and creating a whole new look for patients added an even greater joy to an already fulfilling career. These two phases of training and growth supplied the foundation for the third, and current, phase of my career.
In addition to creating life-changing smiles at my Arlington Heights practice, I teach other dentists at the prestigious Eubank Teaching Institute in Plano, Texas. I’m also a visiting faculty member at UCLA. Educating others about dental concepts and techniques has further deepened my understanding and appreciation of the dental profession.
