About us

Welcome to Sunshine Dental Clinic!

Our mission is to improve the health and happiness of those in our care.  Although we detect and directly treat diseases in the mouth, the benefits flow throughout the entire body.  Recent research has shown that gum disease increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and Alzheimers.  Pregnant women with gum disease have an increased risk of delivering a pre-term baby.  Additionally, children with more cavities are more likely to have weight problems, and consequently suffer the cardiovascular diseases and diabetes which are associated with excess weight.

Healthy teeth and gums are an integral part of overall health, decreasing the risk of heart disease and stroke, and enabling diabetics to more easily control their blood sugar.   The mouth reflects of the rest of the body.  Healthy smiles let the brightness and warmth of one’s heart shine!

In today’s hectic life, it is easy to overlook routine preventive dental care.  Then problems occur.  We would like to help you prevent disease and keep your teeth.   Extra effort is taken to make you feel comfortable when you are under our care.  We explain why treatment is needed, shat is involved, and if there are any other feasible options.  Patients can experience pain-free dentistry.

Sunshine Dental Clinic provides a wide range of dental services for the entire family.  We do exams for children as young as one year old and can provide gentle care for those up to one hundred and one.  We keep up with the latest technologies and developments to provide our patients with the best care possible.  Implants have become routine, and in many cases destroyed jaw bone can be grown.  There is so much more we can do for patients today!

Dr. Diehnelt also emphasizes prevention and education.  Cavity prevention starts during pregnancy or even earlier by improving the condition of the mother’s mouth before pregnancy.    Dr. D offers small classes for mothers with babies and toddlers to teach the mothers how to prevent cavities, giving the little ones their first dental exams and applying fluoride.  Baby’s first dental exam should be when they turn one year old!

Older children often benefit from sealants, protecting the chewing surface of the tooth from decay.   For adults, we offer the S.T.A.R. (Smile Today And Rejoice. no more cavities!)  program.  Because cavities are an infectious disease caused by bacteria, this program uses antimicrobial rinses and xylitol to control the bacteria.  Additionally, fluoride applications and strong toothpastes are use to strengthen the teeth, so that the disease will not occur again.

She is a member of Dentists Who Care, a grassroots organization whose goals are the prevention of early childhood decay and development of trusting relationships between children and dentistry.  She enjoys doing outreach programs in the community and is available to give presentations to schools and other groups.
